BJP MPs File Complaint Against Rahul Gandhi For Alleged Assault In Parliament Scuffle

New Delhi [India], December 19: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs Bansuri Swaraj and Anurag Thakur arrived at the Parliament Street Police Station on Wednesday to file a complaint against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The complaint alleges that Gandhi physically assaulted BJP MP Pratap Sarangi during a scuffle on the Parliament premises.

The incident occurred as both the NDA and INDIA bloc parties staged protests in Parliament, leading to a confrontation between the two groups. During the chaos, BJP MPs Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput were injured and subsequently rushed to Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.

According to the hospital’s Medical Superintendent Ajay Shukla, both MPs suffered head injuries and were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Sarangi experienced heavy bleeding and had a deep cut that required stitching. “Tests will be done. Symptomatic treatment has begun. Since both of them suffered head injuries, they were admitted to the ICU,” Shukla stated. Regarding Rajput, the doctor mentioned that the MP had initially fallen unconscious but was later conscious, though feeling dizzy and anxious.

Sarangi claimed that he was standing near the stairs when another MP fell on him after being pushed by Rahul Gandhi. “Rahul Gandhi pushed a member of Parliament who fell on me, and I then fell down,” Sarangi told reporters.

In response, Rahul Gandhi denied the allegations, stating that he was attempting to enter Parliament when BJP MPs blocked him. He also alleged that Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge was pushed during the incident. “BJP MPs were trying to stop us, push us, and threaten us. This happened… Yes, Mallikarjun Kharge was also pushed, but we do not get affected by jostling,” Gandhi said.

Kharge, in turn, wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, accusing BJP MPs of physically assaulting him. In his letter, he described how he was pushed by BJP MPs during a protest march against Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks on Dr. Ambedkar. Kharge said the incident caused him to lose balance and fall, injuring his knees, which had previously undergone surgery.

The situation remains tense as both parties continue to accuse each other of misconduct, and investigations into the scuffle are underway.
