New Delhi, February 17 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Rajya Sabha MP Sudhanshu Trivedi expressed grave concern over the alleged connections between Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, his wife Elizabeth Gogoi, and controversial figures like George Soros and the Pakistan government, calling it “worrying” and “dangerous for national security.” Trivedi’s remarks came in response to claims made by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma regarding Gogoi’s conversation with Pakistan’s High Commissioner to India in 2015.
Speaking to the media, Trivedi reiterated Sarma’s allegations, asserting that Gogoi’s alleged ties with the George Soros Open Society Foundation and his communication with the Pakistan High Commission signaled a troubling agenda. Trivedi accused the Congress of running a campaign aimed at attacking India from within, while giving support to external adversaries.
“The way senior Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi is linked to George Soros’ foundation and his interaction at the Pakistan Embassy is very concerning,” Trivedi said. “The comments made against the Indian Air Force and paramilitary forces show their hidden agenda to destabilize the nation. Congress has a ‘Mohabbat ki Dukaan’ (shop of love) for India’s adversaries,” he added.
The controversy intensified after Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma linked Gaurav Gogoi’s wife, Elizabeth, to a Pakistani national, Ali Tauqeer Sheikh. Assam Police have filed a case against Sheikh under various sections, including those related to national security and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Assam’s Director General of Police (DGP) Harmeet Singh confirmed that the CID had initiated an investigation and that Sheikh’s actions have raised concerns over national security.
“The activities of Ali Tauqeer Sheikh are judicial to national security,” Singh said. “We need to investigate whether other individuals are involved in a larger conspiracy that could harm India’s integrity.”
Gaurav Gogoi, however, dismissed the allegations as politically motivated, accusing CM Sarma of making baseless claims out of fear of losing his position ahead of the 2024 elections. Speaking at a press conference, Gogoi challenged the Assam CM to allow an investigation, stating that the Congress party would fully cooperate.
“The CM’s constant flip-flopping shows that he is scared and knows he will lose in the upcoming elections,” Gogoi stated. “Look at his eyes, it’s clear something is bothering him. Congress’ stand is clear—investigate, and we will stand firm.”
The growing rift between Gogoi and Sarma, two prominent political figures in Assam, has escalated tensions ahead of the state’s upcoming elections, intensifying the political battle between the Congress and the ruling BJP.
