BJP MP Anurag Thakur Accuses AAP And Congress Of Looting Delhi

With the Delhi Assembly Elections just around the corner, BJP MP Anurag Thakur launched a sharp attack on both the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress, alleging that the people of Delhi have been “betrayed” by both parties during their respective regimes.

Key Allegations by Anurag Thakur:

  1. Looting the Treasury: Thakur claimed that AAP and Congress together have looted Delhi, leaving the treasury in deficit for the first time.
    • “The two parties together have looted Delhi, and the treasury of Delhi is at a loss for the first time,” he asserted.
  2. Congress-AAP “Agreement”:
    • Thakur speculated about a possible pact between the Congress and AAP, citing the absence of Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi from the Delhi campaign trail.
    • He questioned Congress’ lack of focus on Delhi, saying, “Why are they running away? They are going to UP and Bihar but not standing up for Delhi Congress.”
  3. Criticism of Arvind Kejriwal:
    • Thakur accused the Delhi Chief Minister of hypocrisy, pointing to Kejriwal’s demand for Z++ security despite entering politics with promises to simplify governance.
    • “The person who had entered politics a few years ago wearing a XXL shirt now demands double security,” Thakur remarked.

Political Context:

  • AAP’s Dominance:
    • AAP has held power in Delhi since 2013, winning landslide victories in the 2015 (67/70 seats) and 2020 (62/70 seats) elections.
    • The BJP managed only three seats in 2015 and eight seats in 2020.
  • Congress’ Decline:
    • Once a dominant force under Sheila Dikshit, who served as Delhi CM for 15 years, Congress has seen its influence wane, failing to win a single seat in the last two assembly elections.

Upcoming Elections:

  • Polling Date: February 5, 2025
  • Counting of Votes: February 8, 2025
  • Contestants: A total of 699 candidates are vying for 70 assembly seats in the National Capital.

As the election date nears, the rhetoric between political parties continues to intensify, with BJP aiming to challenge AAP’s stronghold and revive its standing in Delhi.
