Hyderabad: Telangana BJP MLA T Raja Singh resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday amid growing dissatisfaction over the party’s leadership choices in the state. His resignation came hours after reports suggested that N Ramchander Rao is set to be appointed as the new BJP Telangana State President.
In a letter addressed to BJP’s current Telangana chief G Kishan Reddy, Singh expressed his deep displeasure over the party’s reported decision.
“As per media reports, Shri Ramchander Rao is set to be appointed as the new BJP State President for Telangana. This decision has come as a shock and disappointment, not just to me, but to lakhs of Karyakartas, leaders, and voters who have stood by the party through every high and low,” Singh wrote in the letter, which he also shared on X (formerly Twitter).
He further stated that the state has several capable leaders who have worked tirelessly for the party and are more deserving of the role.
“There are many capable senior leaders, MLAs, and MPs within our state who have tirelessly worked for the growth of BJP and who have the strength, credibility, and connect to lead the party forward,” he added.
Despite stepping down, Singh affirmed his ideological stance.
“While I may be stepping away from the party, I remain fully committed to the ideology of Hindutva and the service of our Dharma and the people of Goshamahal. I will continue to raise my voice and stand with the Hindu community with even greater strength,” he said.
A Controversial Figure
T Raja Singh, the sitting MLA from Goshamahal Assembly constituency, is known for his hardline Hindutva stance and has often been in the news for his provocative speeches. He has faced several criminal cases, including those involving hate speech.
Earlier this year, in April, two cases were registered against Singh for allegedly using unparliamentary language and issuing threats to police officials during a Ram Navami procession.
The BJP leadership is yet to officially announce Ramchander Rao’s appointment or respond to Singh’s resignation. However, Singh’s exit marks a significant rift within the state unit, hinting at deeper factional tensions in the Telangana BJP as it seeks to strengthen its foothold ahead of key electoral battles.
