Senior BJP leader Avinash Rai Khanna expressed his delight over the formation of the BJP-led government in Maharashtra and praised Devendra Fadnavis, calling him “a great asset” for the party.
“I am delighted that the BJP has received a big mandate. I am delighted that when last time Devendra Fadnavis was elected leader, I too went there as an observer,” Khanna told media. “He has become Chief Minister. He is a great asset for the party.”
Development in Maharashtra
Khanna noted that the BJP’s victory marked a new chapter in Maharashtra’s development. Devendra Fadnavis was sworn in as Chief Minister, with Ajit Pawar from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Eknath Shinde, Shiv Sena chief, taking oath as Deputy Chief Ministers.
The Maharashtra Assembly elections brought a decisive victory for the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance, with BJP emerging as the single-largest party, securing 132 seats. The Shiv Sena and NCP garnered 57 and 41 seats, respectively. The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) suffered a significant setback, with Congress winning just 16 seats, Shiv Sena (UBT) securing 20, and the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) taking 10 seats.
Concerns Over Bangladesh’s Minority Community
In addition to discussing Maharashtra’s political landscape, Khanna addressed concerns regarding the situation in Bangladesh.
He highlighted the contributions of the country’s main minority community to Bangladesh’s GDP and condemned the actions of fundamentalist elements.
“Very good businessmen work there; some fundamentalists (Kattarpanthi) do not understand that, so I think it is a misfortune for Bangladesh,” Khanna remarked.
