New Delhi [India]: In a significant public outreach initiative, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday launched a nationwide ‘Tiranga Yatra’ to honour the bravery of Indian armed forces and raise awareness about the recent Operation Sindoor, India’s major military response to the Pahalgam terror attack.
The yatra, which commenced today, will continue until May 23, culminating in nationwide events celebrating unity and patriotism.
Delhi Flagged Off the Campaign with 108-ft National Flag
The campaign officially began in Delhi with a symbolic march featuring a 108-foot-tall Indian flag. The march started at Kartavya Path and will conclude at the National War Memorial.
Prominent attendees included:

- Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva
Thousands of BJP workers, citizens, religious leaders, social groups, and NGOs joined the march in a show of national solidarity.
Nationwide Coordination and Public Participation
According to party sources, the Tiranga Yatra is designed to go beyond party lines and evolve into a mass movement of patriotism. The BJP has planned events across all states, where:
- Ex-servicemen, social workers, and public figures will lead the marches.
- Local chapters will coordinate with Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and community organisations.
- Social media influencers will amplify the campaign to engage youth and digital audiences.
Strategy Meeting and Key Leaders Involved
On May 12, BJP President JP Nadda chaired a high-level strategy meeting at the party HQ.
Senior leaders tasked with executing the campaign include:
- Sambit Patra
- Vinod Tawde
- Tarun Chugh
The BJP will also host press conferences across major cities to reinforce the message behind the yatra.
Backdrop: Operation Sindoor and Pahalgam Attack
The Tiranga Yatra follows the success of Operation Sindoor, launched by Indian forces on May 7, in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 civilian lives in Jammu and Kashmir.
Key highlights of the operation:
- Over 100 terrorists neutralised across the border in Pakistan.
- India mounted a swift and high-impact retaliation to reaffirm its anti-terror stance.
- Pakistan’s counteroffensive was met with resolute Indian military response, eventually resulting in a ceasefire.
Message of the Yatra
The BJP has framed the Tiranga Yatra as a celebration of unity and resilience, aiming to:
- Pay tribute to the Indian armed forces.
- Reinforce nationalism and public awareness around terrorism.
- Showcase India’s decisive stance under the current leadership.
