BJP Lauds Modi Government’s “Zero Tolerance” On Terrorism Amidst Parliament Debate

New Delhi, India | July 29, 2025: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Ravi Shankar Prasad today asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government not only preaches a policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism but actively demonstrates it through decisive actions. His comments came amidst a heated parliamentary debate on “Operation Sindoor” and the government’s counter-terrorism efforts.

“When the BJP and Prime Minister Modi talk about zero tolerance towards terrorism, they also demonstrate it through their actions,” the BJP MP told mediapersons outside parliament.

Prasad’s remarks were made in reaction to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s extensive address to the Lok Sabha, where Shah criticized the Congress party’s historical handling of issues concerning China, Pakistan, and Kashmir, while also detailing the Modi government’s stringent actions against terrorism.

Earlier in the day, during the ongoing debate on Operation Sindoor, Amit Shah launched a scathing attack on the Congress, contending that “there would be no Pakistan if they didn’t accept partition.” He accused the Congress of historical blunders and a soft stance on terrorism.

Shah particularly targeted former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, stating, “Today, China is in the UN Security Council, and India is not. Modi is trying his best to get India to become a part of the UN Security Council. Jawaharlal Nehru’s stand is responsible for this.” He also criticized Rahul Gandhi, alleging a continuous “love for China” across three generations of the Nehru-Gandhi family. “When our jawans were facing Chinese soldiers in Doklam, Rahul Gandhi was holding a meeting with the Chinese ambassador. This love for China has passed down three generations from Jawaharlal Nehru, Sonia Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi,” Shah asserted.

On the security front, Home Minister Shah confirmed a major success in counter-terrorism operations. He announced that three terrorists involved in the heinous Pahalgam terror attack of April 22, 2025, were eliminated by security forces during a joint “Operation Mahadev.”

“In a joint Operation Mahadev, the Indian Army, CRPF, and J&K Police have neutralised three terrorists who were involved in the Pahalgam terror attack,” Shah informed the Lok Sabha. He condemned the barbaric act in Pahalgam where “innocent civilians were killed in front of their families by asking their religion,” and expressed sympathies to the bereaved families.

Shah specifically identified the neutralized terrorists: “In Operation Mahadev, Suleman alias Faizal, Afghan and Jibran–these three terrorists were killed… Suleman was an A-category commander of the Lashkar-e-Taiba. Afghan was an A-category Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist. And Jibran was also an A-grade terrorist… All three terrorists who killed our citizens in the Baisaran valley have been eliminated.”

Operation Sindoor, which was also a key topic of the parliamentary debate, was a retaliatory strike initiated by India in May 2025, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir following the Pahalgam massacre. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had earlier clarified that the objective of Operation Sindoor was to eliminate terror nurseries, not to capture territory, and that the operation was merely “paused” and would resume if Pakistan engaged in any further “misadventure.”

Key Operations Mentioned:

  • Operation Sindoor: A retaliatory military operation launched by India in May 2025 targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir, following the Pahalgam terror attack. It reportedly destroyed nine terrorist sites and neutralized over 100 terrorists and their handlers.
  • Operation Mahadev: A joint counter-terrorism operation carried out by the Indian Army, CRPF, and J&K Police that resulted in the elimination of three terrorists, including Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Suleman (alias Faizal), who were involved in the Pahalgam terror attack.
