Lakshadweep [India]: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has closed its party office on Androth Island in Lakshadweep, leaving local party workers uncertain about the decision’s implications.
Senior BJP leaders, during a recent visit to Kavaratti, confirmed that the Androth office has been shut since March 1, following oral instructions from BJP Lakshadweep unit president KN Kasmikoya. However, the reason behind this move remains unclear.
The decision has caused concern among party workers, who are now waiting for further directives from the leadership. Androth, a key political hub in Lakshadweep, plays a crucial role in shaping the region’s political landscape.
In January, KN Kasmikoya was re-elected as the president of BJP’s Lakshadweep unit, securing a second term unopposed. His re-election process was overseen by a central team led by former Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan and BJP leader G Kashinath. His nomination was proposed by state general secretary Siraj Koya and supported by HK Mohammed Qasim, emphasizing party unity.
Kasmikoya, a seasoned leader with prior experience as a Sub-Divisional Officer (Executive Magistrate) and district panchayat member, transitioned from Congress to BJP. His administrative expertise and understanding of local issues are expected to benefit the party’s regional strategy.
Meanwhile, BJP’s efforts to strengthen its political presence in Lakshadweep continue, with Syed Mohammed Koya being elevated to a national committee position. Additionally, a few months ago, the party appointed Advocate PM Mohammed Salih as the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) State President for the union territory.
Salih, a practicing advocate and active political figure, is expected to lead BJP’s youth wing initiatives, focusing on outreach programs and addressing developmental concerns in the region.
