BJP-Backed Councillor’s Wife Stabbed To Death In Mandsaur; Son from First Marriage Named Prime Accused

Bhopal:
In a shocking twist to a brutal murder case in Madhya Pradesh, police have alleged that Rubina, the third wife of BJP-supported Mandsaur municipal councillor Shahid Meo, was stabbed to death on Thursday evening by her own stepson.

Investigators say the prime accused is Sahil, Shahid Meo’s son from his first marriage, who allegedly harboured deep resentment over his father’s third marriage and had been nursing a grudge against Rubina for several months.

Attack Near Home After Return From Parents’ House

The murder occurred around 5:30 pm in Abhinandan Nagar, under the jurisdiction of Kotwali police station. According to police, Rubina had just returned from her parents’ home in Madarpura and was getting down from an auto-rickshaw near her rented residence when the attack took place.

Two youths arrived on an Apache motorcycle, and one of them allegedly stabbed Rubina multiple times in the stomach, chest and head. Before bystanders could intervene, the attackers fled the scene.

Rubina was rushed to the district hospital by her husband in critical condition, but doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Councillor Initially Claimed No Enmity

In his initial statement to police, Shahid Meo claimed he was unaware of any motive behind the killing.

“I was in the market when I got a call that my wife had been stabbed. I have no enmity with anyone,” he told investigators.

However, as the probe progressed, police say the focus quickly shifted to internal family conflict.

Power Cut Hampers CCTV, Technical Evidence Leads to Accused

Investigators faced an early setback as a power outage at the time of the attack rendered nearby CCTV cameras non-functional. Despite this, police analysed footage from surrounding areas and gathered technical evidence, which led them to Sahil.

During interrogation, Sahil’s alleged anger over his father’s remarriage emerged as the central motive. Police claim he plotted the murder because he could not accept Rubina as part of the family.

Two Arrested Within 24 Hours

Police said Sahil was assisted by another accused, Sohail, in executing the crime. Both were arrested within 24 hours, and a case has been registered under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.

Complex Family History Comes Under Scrutiny

The case has drawn attention to the complicated personal histories of both the victim and the councillor.

  • Rubina had married Shahid Meo seven months ago.
  • It was her fourth marriage, and she had two young children from a previous relationship.
  • Shahid Meo had also been married three times and has three children from his first wife, including Sahil, and two children from his second marriage.

Police: Long-Standing Family Discord Triggered Crime

Additional Superintendent of Police T.S. Baghel confirmed that prolonged family tensions played a decisive role in the murder.

“The children from the first marriage were unhappy and could not accept the third marriage. This resentment ultimately led to the crime,” he said.
