New Delhi [India]: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President JP Nadda reviewed the party’s preparedness for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections and offered key suggestions during an election management committee meeting on Thursday, according to Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva.
Expressing confidence in the BJP’s chances, Sachdeva stated, “In view of the Delhi Assembly elections, Union Minister and Delhi BJP President JP Nadda came to see the election preparations and he also gave us many suggestions. We are moving towards victory.”
Allegations of Voter Fraud
Reacting to the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) claims of “voter deletion,” Sachdeva accused Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his party of attempting to register “illegal voters.”
“Arvind Kejriwal needs to tell the truth that the electoral roll froze on December 23. AAP and its leaders are trying to register ‘illegal voters’ in Delhi. We have also informed the Election Commission of India about this,” Sachdeva alleged.
AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal had earlier raised concerns about “large-scale fraud” in voter additions and deletions in the New Delhi Assembly seat. In a post on X, Kejriwal cited a letter from Delhi Chief Minister Atishi addressed to the Chief Electoral Officer.
“Sheesh Mahal” Allegations
The BJP further escalated its attacks on Kejriwal, accusing him of corruption in the renovation of the Chief Minister’s residence, which they referred to as “Sheesh Mahal.”
“Sheesh Mahal is a museum of Arvind Kejriwal’s corruption,” Sachdeva claimed.
Earlier, BJP leader Gaurav Bhatia alleged that contractors and liquor businessmen, described as “friends” of Kejriwal, had invested approximately ₹100 crores in “black money” for the construction of the residence.
During a press conference, Bhatia referenced an affidavit where Kejriwal had promised not to take a government bungalow and to live like a common man. Bhatia alleged that Kejriwal had contradicted this promise by constructing a luxurious residence and demanded an explanation.
Context and Upcoming Elections
This intensification of accusations comes as Delhi prepares for its Assembly elections, scheduled for February 5. The counting of votes will take place on February 8.
The last date for filing nominations is January 17, while scrutiny of nominations is scheduled for January 18. Candidates can withdraw their nominations by January 20.
