The Bihar Police have made an official statement on social media on a viral video that showed a police officer and his squad reportedly being rude to a brother and sister in a Katihar restaurant. The event, which swiftly caused a lot of public anger and harsh condemnation of how the police acted, is now being looked into by the government.
The Controversial Video: An Alleged Abuse of Power
The video that has been shared a lot, which is said to have come from the Barsoi police station area in Katihar, shows a police officer and two people getting into a violent argument.
The video shows a police officer asking the man about the woman who was with him. The police officer is shown ranting and reportedly abusing his power as the man clearly says, “Behan hai (my sister).” Some accounts say that the officer even asked for confirmation of the relationship.
The scenario got worse when the woman started recording the fight on her phone, which made the police officers tell her to stop right away. The event has brought up severe doubts about the professionalism and arrogance of the officers involved.
Bihar Police Starts Investigati on, Calls for “Anti-Social Elements”
The Bihar Police department posted a lengthy statement from the Katihar Police on X in reaction to the incident, saying that they had “cognisance of the matter” and sent a show-cause notice to the officer involved.
The department’s statement made the following allegations to explain what the police did:
Reason for Visit: The cops said they went to the restaurant because they had heard that “anti-social elements” were there.
The police said that the brother and sister “misbehaved with the cops” when they were asked for their names and addresses for normal interrogation.
What Happened: The Station Head Officer (SHO) told the SDPO Barsoi about the event right away, and the police station made an official report.
The statement ended by saying that “further action is being taken in the matter.”
Social Media Calls Statement a “Cover-Up”
The police department’s official story, on the other hand, has not made social media users happy. They are still very angry and want severe responsibility.
Many people thought the police statement was a possible “cover-up” to protect the cops involved. People said that the cop should be punished:
One person said sarcastically, “Bravo, Bihar Police!” From chasing criminals to questioning a brother and sister in a restaurant, this is a great example of how well law and order works. Asking for “proof she’s your sister?” What a proud day for police work. This is a bad use of a uniform. “Public trust isn’t your toy.”
Someone else said explicitly, “That cop should be punished and made to say sorry.”
“Take action against the cop,” some people said.
The event has sparked a bigger public discussion about how important it is for police officers in the state to get better training in soft skills and how to work with citizens.
