Bihar NDA Leaders Laud Union Budget 2025 For Key Announcements, Opposition Raises Concerns

New Delhi [India], February 1: The Union Budget 2025 saw Bihar take center stage, with key announcements that were met with mixed reactions from political leaders in the state.

Union Minister Nityanand Rai expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, praising the budget for its focus on the welfare of the poor, farmers, and the middle class. He specifically highlighted the establishment of the Makhana Board, the projects in the Kosi River region, and the employment opportunities generated by the budget. “I thank PM Modi and the union finance minister on behalf of the people of Bihar,” he said.

BJP Bihar MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy described the budget as balanced and non-inflationary, with infrastructural incentives and societal measures aimed at creating a more equitable social landscape. “Bihar deserves these proposals, especially after the 2015 package. The budget brings new opportunities for the state, including airports, IITs, education initiatives, and the Makhana Board,” he said.

Bihar BJP President Dilip Jaiswal emphasized the budget’s attention to the state’s needs, citing announcements related to new airports under the Udan scheme, a medical college, and an expressway. “The central government is helping in every way for the development of Bihar,” he said.

JD(U) leader Sanjay Kumar Jha hailed the creation of a Greenfield airport in Bihar, alongside the Makhana Board, Western Kosi irrigation system, and food-processing institute. “These announcements are very positive for Bihar,” he stated, also praising the tax relief up to Rs 12 Lakhs.

However, the opposition parties voiced strong criticism of the budget. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav accused the Modi government of neglecting Bihar, claiming the budget was anti-village, anti-rural, and anti-poor. “Bihar is being treated unfairly. The announcements are just repeats from previous budgets, with no concrete plans or allocations,” Yadav said.

Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee suggested the budget was designed with the upcoming elections in Bihar in mind, accusing the government of focusing on the state for political reasons. “This budget benefits Bihar, but what about other regions like Bengal? There is nothing for the common man,” he added.

Shiromani Akali Dal MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal criticized the budget for prioritizing Bihar while ignoring other states like Punjab, where farmers have been protesting for legal guarantees on MSP. “The budget is anti-farmer and only focuses on Bihar ahead of elections,” she said.

While NDA leaders in Bihar welcomed the budget’s proposals, the opposition contended that it was an election-driven move with little real substance for the state’s long-term development.
