Patna (Bihar) [India], March 4 : Tensions flared in the Bihar assembly on Tuesday as Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav engaged in a verbal exchange during Kumar’s post-budget speech. The discussion turned heated when Kumar, in his speech, claimed to have played a pivotal role in shaping the political career of Tejashwi’s father, former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav.
As Kumar addressed the assembly, Tejashwi interrupted him, leading to Kumar’s sharp response: “What was there in Bihar earlier? It was me who made your father what he became. Even people from your caste questioned me on why I supported him, but I did so anyway,” he remarked, defending his actions of supporting Lalu Prasad despite initial skepticism from his own community.
Earlier, Bihar BJP President Sanjay Jaiswal praised the state budget and emphasized the new direction it would bring to the state’s infrastructure and development. He remarked that under the NDA, new projects, including those focused on infrastructure and airports, would boost the state’s growth. He highlighted that the state budget had grown from Rs 30,000 crore during Lalu Prasad Yadav’s tenure to a massive Rs 3 lakh crore today, reflecting significant economic progress.
Jaiswal also addressed the criticism from RJD leaders, particularly targeting Tejashwi Yadav. He alleged that Tejashwi neither read nor understood the details of the budget, accusing him of lacking insight into the state’s financial development.
On Monday, Bihar’s government unveiled a Rs 3.17 lakh crore budget for the 2025-26 financial year, marking a 13.6 percent increase from the previous year’s allocation of Rs 2.79 lakh crore. This budget, presented by Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Samrat Choudhary, holds particular significance as it marks the ruling government’s final budget before the state elections later this year. The substantial hike is expected to benefit key sectors, including infrastructure, social welfare, human development, and administrative services.
