Bhubaneswar (Odisha), February 19: Rekam GC, President of the Mool Pravah Akhil Bharat Nepali Ekta Samaj Bhubaneswar, confirmed that the body of the B.Tech third-year student from Nepal, who was found dead at the KIIT University hostel in Odisha, has been sent to Nepal for her final rites to be performed in her village.
Speaking to ANI, Rekam GC stated, “The body was transported from AIIMS to the airport this morning. It will be flown to Delhi and then taken to her village in Nepal via Gorakhpur. The last rites will be conducted in her village. KIIT will bear the accommodation expenses for the students accompanying the body to Nepal. Protests are ongoing.”
The organization raised concerns over the police’s initial handling of the case, questioning why the death was reported as a suicide and urging authorities to conduct a more thorough investigation.
Rekam GC also emphasized that the arrested individual should be questioned further to gain clarity on the situation.
The Akhil Bharat Nepali Ekta Samaj President added, “The Nepal government has decided to withhold the NOC for KIIT until the situation is resolved. We demand action against the guilty and ensure that no innocent person is punished.”
Meanwhile, student unions from various political parties in Nepal staged a protest outside the Indian embassy in Kathmandu on Tuesday, demanding a full investigation into the death of the student from Nepal at KIIT.
The third-year B.Tech student was found dead in her hostel room on February 16, leading Nepali students to protest, alleging harassment by a fellow student and demanding justice.
An accused student, Advik Srivastava, was arrested on February 17 and sent to judicial custody the same day, according to a statement from the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissionerate.
