After years of delay, Bengaluru’s long-awaited Yellow Line, which stretches from RV Road to Bommasandra, is finally set to launch in the first week of August, according to a report by media. The 19.15 km elevated corridor, featuring 16 stations, promises to significantly enhance connectivity across the city’s busy southern corridor, especially around Jayadeva Hospital, Silk Board Junction, and Electronics City.
Delayed but Ready
The project had faced multiple setbacks due to:
- Shortage of metro trains
- Pending approvals for its driverless train system, which requires Independent Safety Assessment (ISA) certification.
Currently, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has three trains allocated to the Yellow Line. These will initially run at 25-minute intervals, covering all stations.
“A safety inspection is likely after July 15 and will take 3–4 days,” a senior BMRCL official said.
The statutory inspection includes checks of:
- All 16 stations
- Track infrastructure
- Operational readiness
- A full-day visit to the Operational Control Centre (OCC) at Baiyappanahalli depot.
All Clear by End of July
BMRCL Managing Director M Maheshwar Rao stated that all procedures should be completed by July-end.
“Once we receive CMRS clearance, we’ll announce the opening date. We’re hopeful it will be ready in the first week of August,” he confirmed.
PM Modi May Inaugurate Yellow Line
There is speculation that Prime Minister Narendra Modi may attend the launch event, depending on his schedule and the monsoon session of Parliament. BMRCL has tentatively selected the KSRP Grounds near Silk Board as the venue.
The launch of the Yellow Line marks a major milestone in Bengaluru’s metro expansion, offering faster, congestion-free travel to thousands of daily commuters in the city’s tech hub and beyond.
