Cannes [France]: Benedict Cumberbatch made a striking appearance at the 78th Cannes Film Festival, walking the red carpet alongside his wife Sophie Hunter for the premiere of ‘The Phoenician Scheme’, directed by Wes Anderson.
Clad in a classic black tuxedo with a crisp white shirt and bowtie, Cumberbatch exuded elegance despite wearing a black arm sling, which sparked curiosity among fans and media alike. While the reason for the sling remains undisclosed, the British actor’s charisma was unaffected.
Sophie Hunter complemented him in an elegant off-shoulder gown, and the couple cheerfully posed for photographers, radiating charm and confidence.
Cumberbatch was in Cannes for the premiere of Anderson’s latest film, ‘The Phoenician Scheme’, which received a 7.5-minute standing ovation following its screening, according to Deadline. The warm reception marks another successful outing for Anderson, known for his signature visual storytelling and ensemble casts.
During a brief post-screening address, Anderson thanked his cast members, including Benicio del Toro, Michael Cera, and Roman Coppola, saying,
“The only thing really I can think to say—I think of 12 words to say that would stand for everything in this movie,” before individually acknowledging his key collaborators.
‘The Phoenician Scheme’ has been described as a return to Anderson’s beloved genre of offbeat dysfunctional family comedies, drawing comparisons to classics like Rushmore and The Royal Tenenbaums.
The film features a star-studded ensemble including Michael Cera, Benicio del Toro, Rupert Friend, Mia Threapleton, Jeffrey Wright, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Antonia Desplat, and Bill Murray.
