Washington DC [US], June 6: Ben Affleck is officially back as Christian Wolff in The Accountant 2, and this time, it was the audience’s continued love for the original that pulled him in. During a global press conference for the sequel, Affleck opened up about why he broke his usual no-sequels rule to revisit the complex character from the 2016 action-thriller.
“You’re right, I don’t often do sequels,” Affleck admitted. “But The Accountant stayed alive in ways I didn’t expect. People kept bringing it up to me. I realized how much it meant to audiences—especially once streaming took off and more people discovered it.”
Directed by Gavin O’Connor and written by Bill Dubuque, The Accountant 2 reunites Affleck with co-stars Jon Bernthal and Cynthia Addai-Robinson. Affleck said his return was deeply influenced by the dedication of the creative team.
“Gavin and I both really love this character, and we felt like there was so much more to explore,” he said. “They spent years developing the sequel carefully. It wasn’t just ‘Let’s do another because the first one worked.’ It was thoughtful, character-driven, and meaningful.”
Affleck and longtime friend Matt Damon produced the movie under their banner Artists Equity. Additional producers include Lynette Howell Taylor and Mark Williams, with executive production from Dani Bernfeld, Kevin Halloran, Michael Joe, Alison Winter, Scott Lastaiti, and Jamie Patricof.
Filming took place in spring 2024, a time marked by major personal changes for Affleck. His marriage to actress Jennifer Lopez ended in divorce in August 2024, which was finalized in January 2025.
Despite the turbulence, Affleck appears fully reenergized by the return of The Accountant—a character and film that continues to strike a chord with fans around the world.
