New Delhi [India]: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has suspended the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 with immediate effect for one week, citing national security concerns following escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.
In an official media release, the BCCI said the decision was made after detailed discussions with IPL franchisees, broadcasters, sponsors, and key stakeholders, reflecting players’ concerns and public sentiment. A new schedule and revised venues will be announced following a comprehensive review of the situation.
“The BCCI stands firmly with the nation. While cricket is a national passion, there is nothing greater than our Nation’s sovereignty and security,” read the board’s statement.
The BCCI also expressed solidarity with the Indian Armed Forces, saluting their bravery and selfless service during Operation Sindoor, India’s military response to recent terrorist attacks and Pakistani aggression.
The suspension follows Thursday night’s match cancellation at the HPCA Stadium, where the Punjab Kings vs. Delhi Capitals clash was called off amid heightened alerts.
The IPL 2025 was nearing its final stages, with the grand finale originally scheduled for May 25.
