In a gesture matching the magnitude of the achievement, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a record-shattering Rs 131 crore cash reward for the Men in Blue following their historic triumph in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

This prize marks the largest ever in the history of Indian cricket, eclipsing the Rs 125 crore awarded to Rohit Sharma’s side in 2024. The announcement comes just 48 hours after India dismantled New Zealand by 96 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium to secure their third T20 world title.
The 2026 campaign has cemented India’s status as a global T20 powerhouse. By defeating the Black Caps in the final, India became the first team in history to successfully defend a T20 World Cup title and the first to win it on home soil. Captain Suryakumar Yadav now joins the legendary ranks of Kapil Dev, MS Dhoni, and Rohit Sharma as a World Cup-winning skipper. The BCCI’s massive payout is set to be distributed among the players, support staff, and selectors who orchestrated the “near-spotless” run, which saw India recover from a lone Super 8 defeat to South Africa to dominate the knockout stages.
The final in Ahmedabad was a masterclass in T20 batting, with India posting a mammoth 255/5 before their bowlers skittled New Zealand for 159. The Rs 131 crore reward significantly dwarfs previous payouts, including the Rs 58 crore for the Champions Trophy and Rs 51 crore for the Women’s World Cup team. As the nation continues to celebrate, the BCCI’s statement emphasized that this victory “further cements India’s place among the most successful teams in the history of the format.”
