Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India]: In a heartfelt tribute to two of India’s greatest cricketing icons, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has dedicated two rooms at its Mumbai headquarters to Sachin Tendulkar and Sunil Gavaskar. The ceremonial inauguration was graced by the legends themselves and attended by top BCCI officials.
BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla expressed his admiration on social media:
“Delighted to be part of the inauguration of the newly dedicated Sachin Tendulkar Room and Sunil Gavaskar Room by @BCCI – a heartfelt tribute to two icons of Indian cricket… Their legacy continues to inspire generations.”
The dedication serves as both a symbolic and enduring recognition of the roles played by Gavaskar and Tendulkar in transforming Indian cricket. Gavaskar was India’s first true batting stalwart, thriving against formidable pace attacks in the ’70s and ’80s, while Tendulkar’s era-defining performances inspired an entire generation from the ’90s onwards.
Rohit Sharma Retires from Test Cricket
In a significant development, Indian captain Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from Test cricket. The decision was acknowledged and respected by the BCCI leadership.
“Rohit Sharma has contributed a lot to Indian cricket… He led the Test team very well and we appreciate his contribution,” said Rajeev Shukla.
While Rohit steps away from the red-ball format, he has confirmed his availability for limited-overs cricket.
“He still has a lot of strength and cricket left in him,” Shukla added, suggesting continued faith in Rohit’s prowess in the shorter formats.
