Mumbai (Maharashtra): The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially announced that the 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 will resume on May 17. A total of 17 remaining matches will be played, following a week-long suspension due to cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan.
In a statement released late Monday, the BCCI said, “After extensive consultations with the government, security agencies, and all the key stakeholders, the India board decided to proceed with the remainder of the season.”
The league will recommence with a high-stakes clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
The BCCI took the opportunity to acknowledge the country’s armed forces, stating, “once again salute the bravery and resilience of India’s armed forces, whose efforts have enabled the safe return of cricket. The Board reaffirms its commitment to national interest while ensuring the successful completion of the league.”
The revised schedule spans six cities: Bengaluru, Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad. Notably, Kolkata’s Eden Gardens — initially chosen to host the final — is no longer among the venues.
The updated fixture list includes two double-headers, both scheduled for Sundays. The playoffs will begin with Qualifier 1 on May 29, followed by the Eliminator on May 30, and Qualifier 2 on June 1. The final will be held on June 3. However, the exact locations for the playoff matches are yet to be confirmed.
Last Thursday, a match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamshala was called off during the first innings. Fans were notified of the cancellation and asked to leave, while both teams were safely escorted back to their hotel.
