In a move to ensure “absolute focus” and eliminate distractions, the BCCI has officially rejected a request from the Indian team management to allow players’ families to stay with them during the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The decision, reported on February 10, 2026, reinforces a strict disciplinary code implemented following India’s disappointing results in the 2024–25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
The policy applies to the entire duration of the tournament, meaning stars like Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, and Jasprit Bumrah will be without their spouses and children in the team hotel.
The “No Exceptions” Policy
The Indian team management had reportedly sought “clarity” on whether wives, fiancées, and partners could accompany the players, especially since the tournament is being co-hosted at home and in neighboring Sri Lanka.
- The Ruling: The BCCI categorically stated that while families are free to travel and make their own independent arrangements, they cannot stay in the team hotel or travel on the team’s private charter flights.
