Battlefield Dossier – Brig Umesh Singh Bawa: The Scholar-Warrior of the Kargil War

Brig Umesh Singh Bawa, VrC, SM commissioned in 17 Battalion the Jat Regiment in Jun 1978. A luminous of National Defence Academy, Defence Services Staff College and Higher Command, he commanded 17 Jat during Kargil war in 1999 and was awarded Vir Chakra for his gallant actions in Kargil war.

His unit captured Pimple Complex part of Point 4875 in Mashkoh valley. He has been instructor in Infantry School, Counter Insurgency Jungle Warfare School and Indian Military Academy. He retired from his service in December 2013.

Brig Umesh Singh Bawa is also a PhD in Public Administration. He has also authored a book “MASHKOH: KARGIL AS I SAW IT”, in which he recounts his true war experience. A true scholar warrior. He is now settled in Gurgaon, Haryana.
