New Delhi: In October 2025, all scheduled and non-scheduled commercial banks in India will be closed for many holidays because of forthcoming regional festivities and normal weekend closures. During the holiday season, which includes big events like Dhanteras, Diwali, and Chhath Puja, banking would still be limited in some states and Union Territories.
Customers were confused about how the bank worked because October 18, 2025 (Saturday) is both Dhanteras and the third Saturday of the month. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) says that most banks in India would still be open today, even though Dhanteras is not a bank holiday.
The only place where banks will be closed is Assam, where the Kati Bihu festival will be held on October 18.
There will be 21 bank holidays in October 2025, according to the RBI holiday calendar.

Kati Bihu, or Kongali Bihu, is a celebration in Assam that honors the harvest. It takes place in the Assamese month of Kati. Kati Bihu is a more serious holiday for prayer, introspection, and hope for a good crop. It is not as lively as Rongali or Bhogali Bihu.
Farmers light clay lamps near their tulsi plants and rice fields to keep their crops safe and ask for God’s help in making them grow.
