Dhaka: Bangladesh High Commissioner to India, Reaz Hamidullah, has rushed back to Dhaka following what has been described as an “urgent call” from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs amid growing strain in Bangladesh–India relations, according to multiple Bangladesh media reports late Monday.
The widely circulated daily, Prothom Alo, reported that Hamidullah was summoned “on an urgent basis” in light of the current situation surrounding bilateral engagements between the two neighbouring countries. Citing a reliable source within the foreign office, the report stated that the envoy landed in Dhaka on Monday night in response to the directive.
“He has been summoned to Dhaka for discussions on the recent situation of bilateral relations,” the source was quoted as saying, indicating that key diplomatic consultations are expected to take place regarding emerging challenges in the Dhaka-New Delhi relationship.
Though details behind the urgency remain undisclosed officially, the development signals heightened diplomatic attention from Bangladesh as it evaluates recent developments impacting ties with India.
Further updates are awaited as discussions continue in Dhaka.
