Balochistan [Pakistan], March 10: In a tragic incident, reports have emerged of Wafa Baloch, a resident of Paroom tehsil in Panjgur district, allegedly being killed by Pakistani paramilitary forces near the Goldsmith Line, marking the border between Iran and Pakistan’s Balochistan. The incident has sparked outrage among Baloch activists and human rights organizations.
According to a post by the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) on X, Wafa Baloch, son of Allah Bakhsh, was extrajudicially executed by Pakistani paramilitary forces on February 26, 2025. The BYC further stated that Wafa had previously endured six months of enforced disappearance and illegal detention by Pakistani security agencies. Despite his release from a Pakistani torture cell, Wafa’s family continued to suffer trauma. Tragically, he was shot and killed while working as a border driver, targeted for being Baloch.
The BYC condemned the incident, calling it part of the broader pattern of extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, and systematic oppression faced by the Baloch people. The committee urged the international community and human rights organizations to hold Pakistani authorities accountable for these violations and to take immediate action.
The BYC emphasized that the ongoing violence in Balochistan, which it described as a “genocide” against the Baloch population, has reached alarming levels. Pakistani security forces, intelligence agencies, and state-backed militias are routinely accused of targeting, disappearing, and executing civilians, creating a climate of fear and repression in the region.
While Pakistani security agencies have not officially responded to these claims, they align with previous reports of human rights violations in the region. Human rights groups and local activists have consistently raised alarms about the escalating violence in Balochistan, urging greater international intervention to address the deteriorating situation and to protect the rights and safety of the Baloch community.
The issue of enforced disappearances remains a significant concern, with numerous Baloch individuals allegedly abducted by Pakistani security forces and subjected to illegal detention and torture. The persecution of the Baloch people continues to be a major human rights issue in Pakistan, with widespread fear and uncertainty pervading the community.
