Bad Bunny Confirmed As Super Bowl LX Halftime Headliner: Controversy Erupts Over Past ICE Remarks And MAGA Backlash

Bad Bunny, a Puerto Rican musician that is famous all over the world, has been named the headliner for the Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show. The concert that everyone is looking forward to will take place on February 8, 2026, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

The news came out during the break in the Sunday Night Football game between the Green Bay Packers and the Dallas Cowboys. This was one of the most famous performance slots in the world for the Grammy-winning musician.

Bad Bunny talked about how much the performance meant to him personally after the big news. He told Variety, “What I’m feeling goes beyond myself.” He said that the event was a tribute to his heritage and community. “It’s for those who came before me and ran countless yards so I could come in and score a touchdown… this is for my people, my culture, and our history,” he said.

Old Comments About Immigration and ICE Come Back

Not long after the announcement, a comment that Bad Bunny had made to i-D magazine started to spread quickly online, causing more controversy. During the conversation, the musician talked about why he didn’t go to the US on his last tour and instead stayed in Puerto Rico.

He said that his choice wasn’t based on hate, but on the fact that Puerto Rico is an unincorporated part of the U.S. He said that people from the U.S., as well as Latinos and Puerto Ricans who live in the U.S., could easily fly to the island or other areas of the world to witness his concert.

He brought up a big worry for his fans: “But there was the issue of—like, (expletive) ICE could be outside.” This comment about the presence of federal immigration authorities has become the center of the current reaction.

Trump’s Friends Promise to Enforce at the Super Bowl

Supporters of President Donald Trump swiftly criticized the NFL’s decision and the comments that came back up.

Corey Lewandowski, who used to be Trump’s campaign manager, went on Benny Johnson’s conservative show to provide a strong warning about immigration enforcement at the event. “There is no place you can give people who are in this country illegally a safe place to stay,” Lewandowski said. Not even the Super Bowl or anywhere else. He was very clear when he said, “I don’t care whose concert it is…” If you’re here illegally, you’ll be sent back to your home country.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem joined in the criticism and told the public that enforcement measures would be in full swing during the Super Bowl. “I have to make sure that everyone who goes to the Super Bowl has a good time and gets home safely.” Noem informed Benny Johnson, “That’s what America is all about.” She also said, “We’ll be all over that place.”

False Claims of Cancellation Proven Wrong

As the political and cultural debate got more heated, unconfirmed posts started to emerge on social media saying that Bad Bunny’s halftime show had been canceled because of the “MAGA outrage.”

There have been posts that say things like “Bad Bunny will no longer be performing during the Super Bowl because of MAGA outrage” and “BREAKING: The Super Bowl Halftime Show featuring Bad Bunny has been OFFICIALLY canceled.” These are all lies. At this point, neither the artist nor the NFL has said anything to confirm or deny a cancellation. The Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show is still on as planned.
