Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 20: Director Ayan Mukerji has opened up about the creative and emotional stakes of helming War 2, one of the most awaited action spectacles of 2025. The film brings together Bollywood icon Hrithik Roshan and Telugu superstar Jr NTR in a cinematic face-off that Mukerji promises will be “jaw-dropping” and “adrenaline-pumping.”
According to a press note from the makers, Ayan described the experience as both a challenge and a celebration, especially given the expectations following the massive success of War (2019), which starred Hrithik Roshan, Tiger Shroff, and Vaani Kapoor.
“It’s a huge responsibility to take forward a hugely loved franchise like War and leave your own mark on it,” Mukerji said. “You can’t have fun otherwise while coming on board such a blockbuster. One has to take what has been set and then make the fans of the film—and the fans of these gigantic superstars—go on a journey that is new and hopefully leaves them hungry for more.”
The filmmaker revealed that significant effort was invested in building a storyline and crafting high-octane action sequences worthy of its leading men. “The maximum time spent was on the action set pieces and the conflict, which was needed to mount the face-off between Hrithik and NTR,” he added.
Calling the film a celebration of Indian cinema’s might, Mukerji remarked, “War 2 is truly the coming together of Indian cinema with these two huge actors joining forces. We were aware of the expectations this pairing would set in the minds of their fans, and every second was spent thinking of how to give them an experience of a lifetime when they sit in the theatres.”
War 2 is set for a global theatrical release on August 14, 2025, and will serve as a sequel to the 2019 blockbuster War, which grossed over ₹200 crore in its opening week and became one of the year’s biggest hits.
