In a surprising turn of events for the Indian box office, the domestic demand for Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday’s upcoming rom-com, Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri, has forced a significant reduction in the showcasing of Hollywood’s biggest release, Avatar: Fire and Ash.

Starting Christmas Day (December 25, 2025), show counts for the third installment of James Cameron’s sci-fi franchise will be reduced by approximately 30% across several independent chains and multiplexes to accommodate the new Bollywood release.
The “Kartik Aaryan” Factor
Trade analysts suggest that the decision stems from a combination of “Avatar fatigue” and the high bankability of Kartik Aaryan during the holiday season.
Underwhelming Avatar Start: Avatar: Fire and Ash opened to ₹23.25 crore on its first Friday (December 19)—nearly 50% lower than its predecessor, The Way of Water. While it crossed the ₹50 crore mark over the weekend, it has failed to ignite the expected “Pandora mania” in North Indian markets.
Family Choice: Exhibitors believe Tu Meri Main Tera… is a “perfect fit” for family viewing during the Christmas-New Year break. “There is a strong demand among the youth, and the ‘mamma’s boy’ meets ‘Gen-Z author’ vibe of the film is driving advance interest,” a trade source told Bollywood Hungama.
Dhurandhar Remains “Unstoppable”
While Avatar 3 faces a cut, the same does not apply to the current box office king, Ranveer Singh.
Jio Studios’ Stance: Jio Studios has strictly refused any reduction in shows for their spy-thriller Dhurandhar.
Record-Breaking Run: The Aditya Dhar directorial has already crossed ₹516 crore (Hindi net) in just 16 days, becoming the fastest outright Bollywood film to reach the 500-crore milestone. Exhibitors are adhering to original commitments for the film, which continues to see high occupancy.
