New Delhi (India), February 23: In a press conference on Sunday, Former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi clarified that she had submitted the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports to Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena before the Delhi Assembly elections, accusing the BJP of spreading misconceptions.
Atishi emphasized that, as Chief Minister, she had sent the CAG reports to the Delhi Assembly’s speaker in a sealed envelope prior to the elections. She criticized the BJP for trying to mislead the public by claiming credit for the presentation of the report. “BJP is trying to spread the misconception that the CAG report is being presented by them… The misconception being spread among the people of Delhi should be brought before the public,” Atishi said during the press conference.
During the same event, AAP senior leader Gopal Rai announced that Atishi would be the new Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Legislative Assembly, following the party’s recent defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections.
Meanwhile, the BJP is set to table the CAG report in the Delhi Assembly during the upcoming three-day session, starting February 24. BJP leader Vijender Gupta stated that presenting the CAG report would be the government’s foremost agenda, following a cabinet meeting held earlier in the week.
The session will take place on February 24, 25, and 27, and is expected to stir further political debates, especially over the content of the report. Earlier, Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa alleged that the CAG report highlights irregularities in the supply of liquor, accusing the AAP government of corruption. Sirsa claimed that the report had been withheld for three years and said it reveals a liquor scam and irregularities in the alcohol supply chain.
“The CAG report was withheld for the last three years. The government, which claims to be an honest party, is the most corrupt. They did not want to bring the CAG report before the public,” Sirsa alleged.
