New Delhi [India], March 21: Delhi Assembly Leader of Opposition Atishi on Friday criticized Delhi Minister Parvesh Verma for making derogatory statements about Delhi government officers. Atishi, addressing a press conference, defended the officers, stating that they have consistently worked under challenging circumstances over the past decade.
“Atishi pointed out that the officers targeted by Verma are the same ones who have served diligently in Delhi for the last 10 years, even in difficult conditions. These officers are responsible for improving the infrastructure of government hospitals and have contributed to Delhi’s development,” she said.
Her remarks came after Parvesh Verma, the Public Works Department (PWD) Minister of Delhi, ordered the suspension of a PWD executive engineer during an inspection of drainages in the capital. Verma criticized the PWD for not addressing drainage issues and stated, “The cleaning of drains is the responsibility of the PWD department, which is not happening. This is why I have ordered the suspension of the XEN (Executive Engineer). All officers have been told that if they do not work properly, action will be taken. We can’t leave Delhi like this.”
Verma went on to claim that the entire system of Delhi had “broken down” in the past decade, and emphasized that strict instructions had been issued to officials, warning that negligence would not be tolerated. “For those who have not worked in the last 10 years, we will make them work,” Verma added, asserting that the newly elected government was committed to taking action on the ground.
Atishi, however, criticized Verma’s statements, implying that such accusations were unfounded and dismissive of the efforts made by government officers.
