New Delhi [India]: Delhi Assembly Leader of the Opposition Atishi criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday for allegedly failing to deliver on key promises made to women in Delhi.
Atishi’s Allegations
Speaking to media, Atishi stated:
“BJP and PM Modi made several promises to the people of Delhi. The promise of ₹2,500 turned out to be a ‘Jhumla.’ Women of Delhi were supposed to get free LPG cylinders during Holi, yet only two days remain, and they are still waiting. Women in different parts of Delhi are now protesting with empty cylinders against BJP’s fake promises.”
BJP’s Promises in Focus
In its Delhi Assembly election manifesto, the BJP had pledged:
✅ ₹2,500 monthly financial assistance for women under the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana
✅ LPG cylinders at ₹500 for low-income women
✅ One free LPG cylinder on Holi and Diwali
Delhi CM Rekha Gupta’s Response
On March 8, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta reaffirmed BJP’s commitment to fulfilling these promises. Addressing an event on International Women’s Day, Gupta said:
“We will deliver everything that we have promised. The Narendra Modi government is the only one that approved 33% reservation for women. We are dedicated to enhancing women’s welfare and security. We have already built pint toilets in Delhi.”
AAP’s Criticism
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Gopal Rai accused the BJP of avoiding accountability. He criticized the BJP for allegedly delaying the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report to divert attention.
“The BJP doesn’t want to table the CAG report; they’re just playing the blame game to avoid delivering on their promises,” Rai said.
With Holi approaching and political tensions rising, the debate over unfulfilled promises has intensified in Delhi’s political landscape.
