New Delhi (India), February 24: Atishi, the Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, expressed dissatisfaction with Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta regarding the unfulfilled promise of the Mahila Samman Yojana, a scheme intended to provide financial assistance to women in Delhi.
Speaking to ANI, Atishi criticized the Delhi government for failing to implement the scheme, pointing out that the commitment made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his first cabinet meeting had been broken. She emphasized the government’s inaction and described the guarantee made by the Prime Minister as “false.”
Atishi highlighted that despite several requests, the Chief Minister had not met with her for two days, and the delay in the scheme’s implementation was concerning. She further urged that the Delhi government should fulfill its promise, stressing that “on 8th March, the first installment of Rs 2500 of Mahila Samman Yojana will definitely come into the account of every woman of Delhi.”
In related developments, Delhi BJP President Virendraa Sachdeva criticized the previous approach in the Delhi Assembly, accusing it of being marked by anarchy and a dictatorial attitude. He expressed hope that under Rekha Gupta’s leadership, the Assembly would prioritize productive debates focused on the development of Delhi.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Pawan Khera took aim at both the Narendra Modi-led central government and the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government for allegedly disrupting democratic traditions by not tabling the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports in the legislature.
Earlier in the day, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta took the oath as a Member of the Legislative Assembly. According to the Delhi Assembly bulletin, Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena will address the assembly on February 25, after which the CAG reports will be tabled. The assembly will also discuss the motion of thanks on the LG’s address that day. On February 26, the discussion will continue, and the election of the Deputy Speaker of the Delhi Assembly will take place.
