Operations at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in New Delhi were severely disrupted on Friday morning following a major technical glitch within the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system.
The malfunction immediately impacted air traffic management, leading to widespread delays for both arrivals and departures at one of India’s busiest airports.
Media reported that the ATC glitch has led to the delay of over 100 flights, causing significant inconvenience for passengers traveling through the capital.
Airport and Officials Respond
The Delhi Airport administration acknowledged the operational hit and confirmed that an ATC team is currently working in coordination with all stakeholders to resolve the technical issue as quickly as possible.
In light of the disruption, the airport has issued a strong advisory: “Passengers are advised to stay in touch with their respective airlines for the latest flight updates.”
Airlines Issue Advisories and Apologies
Major domestic airlines, including IndiGo, SpiceJet, and Air India, were quick to acknowledge the massive delays and issued their own advisories to passengers, assuring them of assistance during the unforeseen disruption.
Air India specifically noted that the ATC glitch was causing flight delays and longer wait times at the Delhi airport.
“We regret the inconvenience caused by this unforeseen disruption, which is beyond our control, and appreciate your patience. Our cabin crew and on-ground staff at the airport are extending immediate assistance to reduce passenger inconvenience,” the airline stated.
IndiGo released a similar advisory, urging passengers to verify their flight status on the airline’s official website. “We understand that extended wait times, both on the ground and onboard, may cause inconvenience, and we sincerely appreciate your patience,” IndiGo added.
SpiceJet also confirmed that delays in both departures and arrivals are to be expected and advised customers to track their flight status via the airline’s website.
