Assam Police Nabs Key Operative Of Terror Network Under Operation Praghat

Guwahati (Assam) [India]: In a major breakthrough under Operation Praghat, aimed at dismantling fundamentalist networks and global terrorist organizations, the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police has successfully apprehended a key operative linked to extremist activities.

Based on precise intelligence, STF Assam, with support from Kokrajhar Police, conducted a swift operation in the early hours of February 3, leading to the arrest of Nasim Uddin SK from Kokrajhar district.

Links to Terrorist Organizations

“The arrested individual has been identified as an active member of the Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) and Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen (JAM). He was a close associate of the prime accused Nur Islam Mandal, who was previously arrested in the same case for his involvement in extremist activities,” said Rajib Saikia, CPRO of Assam Police.

The accused had been evading law enforcement since December 17, 2024, and was on the run, attempting to escape justice.

Key Conspirator in Arms & IED Manufacturing

Investigations revealed that Nasim Uddin SK was a key conspirator, working closely with Nur Islam Mandal in acquiring weapons and manufacturing improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

“Their objective was clear—to destabilize national security, disrupt peace, and pose a grave threat to India’s sovereignty. This arrest marks another critical step in dismantling the growing nexus of radical elements seeking to create unrest and jeopardize the integrity of our nation,” added the CPRO.

Legal Action & Further Investigation

The accused has been booked under multiple stringent sections of Indian law, including:

  • IPC Sections: 61(2)/147/148/149
  • Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967: Sections 10/13/16/18/18B/20/38/39
  • Explosive Act: Sections 4/5
  • Arms Act: Sections 25/27
  • Foreigners Act: Sections 13/14
  • Passport Act, 1967: Section 12(1)(a)

Following his court appearance, the accused has been remanded to police custody for seven days for further interrogation.

Authorities are now intensifying efforts to uncover the full extent of the terror network, which is believed to have cross-border links. The investigation is ongoing to track down other operatives involved in extremist activities.
