Guwahati (Assam) [India]: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Tuesday that Assam has become India’s third-fastest-growing state—something he described as “unimaginable” just a few years ago.

In a post on X, CM Sarma shared that the state’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) growth rate has reached 7.94 percent at constant prices.
“Assam is now India’s 3rd fastest growing state, with a GDP growth rate of 7.94 percent at constant prices. Our pro-investor policies & sustained investments in infrastructure, institutions & individuals are driving this growth. A few years ago, this was unthinkable,” he posted.
Along with the economic achievement, CM Sarma highlighted his vision to drastically improve state connectivity through three proposed high-speed corridors.
“I envision three high-speed corridors that will transform connectivity across Assam: Srirampur to Guwahati, Guwahati to Silchar and Guwahati to Dibrugarh. The Guwahati-Silchar corridor via Borapani is set to become a reality soon. We have also initiated the ground-level work for the Guwahati-Dibrugarh corridor. My dream is to ensure that both Silchar and Dibrugarh can be reached from Guwahati within 6 hours,” the Assam CM said on X.
Further boosting the state’s infrastructure development, CM Sarma stated that there is unanimous confidence in completing the Jorhat-Dibrugarh section of the National Highway by December 31, 2025.
“Pursuant to my discussion yesterday in Delhi with Dr. Krishan Kumar, Managing Director of @nhidcl, I am happy to share that there is unanimous confidence in completing the Jorhat-Dibrugarh section of the National Highway by 31st December,” he posted on X.
Earlier, CM Sarma had met with Krishan Kumar, MD of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), to review key infrastructure projects in Assam. Among the projects discussed were the ₹25,000 crore Guwahati-Silchar Expressway, the proposed Numaligarh-Gohpur underwater tunnel, and the expansion of the National Highway network from Baihata Chariali to Tezpur, and from Gohpur to Kulajan.
He also noted that approximately 95% of the four-lane highway project from Kaliabor to Numaligarh—which passes through the Kaziranga National Park—has been completed, with only minor stretches remaining.
