Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Appreciates Amit Shah’s Visit And Criminal Law Reforms

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday expressed his gratitude for Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent three-day visit to Assam. During his visit, Shah inaugurated a new state police training academy and discussed the implementation of three new criminal laws aimed at strengthening the state’s criminal justice system.

In a post on X, CM Sarma highlighted the importance of these reforms and their potential to safeguard marginalized communities. He also praised Shah’s engagement with the Bodo community and his ongoing commitment to the state’s welfare.

“Union Home Minister Amit Shah concluded his three-day visit to Assam during which he dedicated a new state police training academy, interacted with our Bodo community, and lent us his valuable insights on implementing the three new criminal laws. We are extremely grateful for his commitment towards the welfare of Assam,” Sarma wrote.

The Chief Minister also shared details of his participation in a conference with colleagues from other Northeastern states, focusing on the implementation of the new laws, BNS, BNSS, and BNA. Sarma emphasized that these laws represent a significant reform under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government.

“Today, under the guidance of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, I joined my colleagues from North Eastern States in a conference that aims to ensure robust implementation of the three new criminal laws. BNS, BNSS, and BNA are watershed reforms ushered in by the government led by Prime Minister Modi. Indian ethos are at the heart of these new laws which are rooted in modern techniques, protect the rights of the marginalized, and strike at the core of heinous offences,” Sarma wrote.

Sarma added that the discussions from the conference would help Assam implement these laws effectively, ensuring a criminal justice system built on impartiality, efficiency, and efficacy.

Amit Shah arrived in Assam on March 14 for his three-day visit. During the visit, he inaugurated the new buildings of the Lachit Borphukan Police Academy and attended several programs in Aizawl. On March 16, he visited Kokrajhar to address the 57th Annual Conference of the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU), before returning to Guwahati to chair a review meeting on the implementation of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for the Northeastern states.
