New Delhi [India]: Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership in the execution and success of Operation Sindoor, calling it the “clearest articulation” of India’s zero-tolerance policy against terrorism. In a blog published via the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Vaishnaw emphasized that India has “rewritten the rulebook” on counter-terrorism following the Pahalgam terror attack.
“The massacre in Pahalgam was not just an attack on innocent lives—it was an assault on India’s conscience,” wrote Vaishnaw.
“Operation Sindoor is the Modi government’s clearest articulation of a zero-tolerance, no-compromise policy to safeguard national security.”
Strategic Retaliation Over Impulse
Vaishnaw underlined the strategic nature of India’s response, stating that PM Modi’s decisions—suspending the Indus Water Treaty and executing targeted military strikes—were carefully planned and timed.
“These moves prevented Pakistan and terror groups from anticipating India’s response. It ensured Operation Sindoor was executed with surprise, precision, and full impact,” he noted.
Key Highlights of Operation Sindoor
- Date: May 7
- Objective: Retaliatory strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir (PoJK)
- Scope: 9 terror hideouts targeted
- Backdrop: Response to the April 22 Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians
Operation Sindoor was launched following a CCS (Cabinet Committee on Security) meeting, after which India put the Indus Water Treaty (1960) in abeyance, signaling a major diplomatic escalation.
PM Modi’s National Address: A New Doctrine
In his national address on May 12, PM Modi placed Operation Sindoor alongside the 2016 surgical strikes and 2019 Balakot air strikes, reaffirming India’s commitment to direct and decisive counter-terrorism measures.
“Water and blood cannot flow together,” said PM Modi, referencing the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty.
“There will be no talks with Pakistan unless it is about terrorism and the vacation of PoJK.”
PM Modi declared that Operation Sindoor has redefined India’s counter-terrorism strategy and set a new benchmark and new normal in the fight against terrorism.
