Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is set to meet Punjab party leaders on February 11 following AAP’s electoral setback in Delhi.
Congress Criticizes AAP’s Punjab Meeting
Reacting to Kejriwal’s decision, Congress MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla criticized AAP, stating that the party should focus on introspection rather than dragging Punjab into its issues.
“They (AAP) have just lost in Delhi, and now they are calling a meeting for Punjab. They should introspect about Delhi’s loss instead of disturbing those who are working in Punjab. They are scared… The people of Punjab are happy with AAP’s loss in Delhi,” said Aujla.
BJP’s Historic Win in Delhi Elections
- The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a massive victory, winning 48 seats in the 70-member Delhi Assembly, marking its return to power after 27 years.
- Several AAP leaders, including former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, suffered defeats in their strongholds, while Atishi managed to retain her seat.
- Following the election, Atishi submitted her resignation at Raj Niwas, where Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena reminded the outgoing government about its failures, particularly regarding Yamuna River cleaning efforts.
- Saxena subsequently dissolved the Seventh Legislative Assembly of Delhi, clearing the way for a BJP-led government in the national capital.
Congress Fails Again in Delhi
Despite aiming for a revival, the Congress failed to win a single seat for the third consecutive assembly election. The party, which ruled Delhi for 15 years (1998-2013), continues to struggle in the capital’s political landscape.
With AAP facing a major setback, Kejriwal’s Punjab meeting is seen as an effort to regroup and strategize amid growing challenges.
