NEW DELHI: Amid growing speculation, former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday ruled out the possibility of entering the Rajya Sabha, dismissing claims by opposition parties and stating that the final decision will be taken by the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Political Affairs Committee.
Kejriwal’s clarification comes after AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora won the Ludhiana West Assembly by-election in Punjab, necessitating his resignation from the Upper House of Parliament.
📢 Kejriwal’s Firm Stand
Addressing a press conference, Kejriwal said:
“Many times people have speculated that I will be sent to the Rajya Sabha. I want to tell you clearly—I am not going to the Rajya Sabha. The political affairs committee of the party will decide whom to nominate.”
The comment was a direct response to claims from opposition leaders, who alleged that Kejriwal might use the vacated seat to enter Parliament’s Upper House.
🔁 Sanjeev Arora’s Win Triggers Vacancy
Arora’s victory in the Ludhiana West bypoll, held in Punjab, means he will now have to resign his Rajya Sabha seat, leaving AAP with the task of nominating a new candidate. The Political Affairs Committee, the party’s top decision-making body, is expected to deliberate on a suitable replacement in the coming days.
