New Delhi (India), January 26 – Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal criticized the BJP’s model of governance, accusing the party of giving people’s money as loans to billionaire friends, which are later waived off after two to three years.
During a press conference, Kejriwal compared the BJP’s approach to his party’s welfare model, saying, “On one hand, there is the BJP model, where your money is given as a loan to billionaire friends and then waived off. On the other hand, there’s the AAP model, which includes 24-hour electricity, free electricity for the poor, 24-hour free water, and high-quality medical treatment. This is the AAP welfare model.”
He further claimed that the BJP has made it clear through the words of various leaders that if they win, they will end the facilities currently available in Delhi, as they go against the BJP’s model.
The rivalry between the BJP, AAP, and Congress has intensified as the Delhi Assembly elections approach. On Saturday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah sharply criticized Kejriwal, accusing him of failing to fulfill his promises to the public. Shah pointed to Kejriwal’s past statements, such as pledging not to form a political party during Anna Hazare’s movement, but doing so soon after. He also mentioned Kejriwal’s unkept promises, including taking no action against former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and breaking his vow not to take government accommodations, instead acquiring multiple bungalows.
The political battle between the three parties has become fiercer as election day nears. The Delhi Assembly elections are scheduled for February 5, with results to be announced on February 8. A total of 699 candidates are competing for the 70 assembly seats in Delhi.
Congress, which ruled Delhi for 15 consecutive years, has faced significant setbacks in the last two elections, failing to win any seats. In contrast, AAP emerged victorious in 2015 and 2020, securing 67 and 62 seats respectively, while BJP won only three and eight seats in those elections.
