The 11th International Day of Yoga was marked by spirited celebrations in the scenic Tawang District of Arunachal Pradesh, capturing the essence of this year’s theme, “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.” The event, organised by the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, showcased widespread community participation and symbolised the union of personal well-being with planetary harmony.
Set against the serene backdrop of the Himalayas, the celebration saw enthusiastic involvement from local residents, school children, government officials, and soldiers of the Gajraj Corps, epitomising the holistic spirit of Yoga in even the remotest parts of India.
The event was graced by Union Minister Kiren Rijiju and Chief Minister Pema Khandu, whose presence underscored the universal relevance of Yoga in fostering physical fitness, mental clarity, and environmental responsibility.
In his address, Pema Khandu commended the Indian Army for integrating Yoga into their daily regimen despite the extreme weather and difficult terrain of the border state. He called upon the youth to adopt Yoga not only as a fitness routine but as a way of life that builds resilience, mental strength, and unity.
The event began with an explanation of the scientific and health benefits of Yoga, focusing on its role in reducing stress, enhancing productivity, and improving overall wellness. Certified instructors led a Mass Yoga Session, following the Ministry of AYUSH protocol, which included prayers, warm-up exercises, key postures like Kapalbhati Pranayam, and meditation.
The overwhelming participation of local villagers, school students, and Army personnel reflected the deep cultural connection and camaraderie between the Indian Army and the Tawang community. This unique display of unity reaffirmed Yoga’s power to bridge differences and promote collective well-being.
Highlighting the majestic Himalayan landscape, the celebration also reinforced the need to protect nature while nurturing personal health, truly embodying the theme of “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.”
As the world moves towards holistic health and environmental sustainability, events like this in Tawang echo India’s leadership in promoting Yoga as a global practice for a balanced life and a healthy planet.
