Army Defuses Live Shells In Rajouri As Security Forces Engage Terrorists In Tral; Life Returns To Normal In Akhnoor Post Ceasefire

Jammu and Kashmir— As India and Pakistan observe a ceasefire understanding following Operation Sindoor, Indian security forces remain actively engaged in ensuring safety along the Line of Control (LoC) and interior districts of Jammu and Kashmir. Key developments continue to unfold in border and conflict-prone areas, reflecting both ongoing security operations and gradual restoration of civilian life.

Live Shells from Pakistan Shelling Defused in Rajouri

In the Nowshera sub-division of Rajouri district, the Indian Army’s Engineer Bomb Disposal Squad is conducting round-the-clock operations to detect and defuse live shells fired by Pakistan during recent escalations.

These unexploded ordnances, found in residential areas, pose a direct threat to civilians. Army officials confirmed that daily efforts are being made to retrieve and neutralize these projectiles, ensuring the safety and psychological reassurance of border residents.

“Our teams are working relentlessly to prevent any casualties or damage in civilian zones due to unexploded shells,” said an Army official involved in the operations.

Fresh Encounter Breaks Out in Tral, Awantipora

Meanwhile, an encounter erupted early Thursday between police and terrorists in the Nader area of Tral in Awantipora. The Kashmir Zone Police posted on X:

“Encounter has started at Nader, Tral area of Awantipora. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow.”

Security forces have cordoned off the area and are engaged in the operation. Additional information is awaited as the situation develops.

Three LeT Terrorists Killed in Shopian Operation

Earlier this week, three terrorists affiliated with the Pakistan-backed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were eliminated in a fierce gun battle in the Shukroo forest area of Keller in Shopian district, South Kashmir.

Security sources confirmed that two of the three terrorists have been identified, and the third’s identity is being ascertained. This successful operation is being viewed as another strategic blow to the Lashkar network in the region.

Normalcy Returns to Akhnoor Post Ceasefire

Following the India-Pakistan agreement to halt hostilities, the border town of Akhnoor in Jammu is witnessing a return to normal life. Residents are resuming daily routines, and shops have reopened.

“The situation in Akhnoor remains normal after the ceasefire was announced. Shops are opening, and people are returning to their work,” said Bhupendra Singh, a local resident.

To bolster civil confidence and meet immediate healthcare needs, the Indian Army also organized a free medical camp in Narayana village of the Akhnoor sector. The camp provided essential medical check-ups, treatment, and medicines to villagers, reaffirming the Army’s humanitarian outreach in conflict-affected zones.

Background: Operation Sindoor

These developments follow the launch of Operation Sindoor on May 7, a comprehensive Indian military offensive targeting terror launch pads across Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). The operation was conducted in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of Indian pilgrims and security personnel.
