India ‘Ready for Ground Offensive’: Army Chief Shares New Details on Operation Sindoor

Army chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Tuesday revealed fresh insights about Operation Sindoor, India’s military response to the May 2025 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives. Speaking at an event, he said India had undertaken “major mobilisation” and was prepared for a full-scale ground offensive if tensions with Pakistan had escalated.

Operation Sindoor Still Active
General Dwivedi emphasized that the operation, which began in May 2025, remains underway. “As far as our eyes and ears are concerned, since Operation Sindoor is underway, they will remain fully alert. Under this, we have already put in place whatever actions are required from our side,” he said, referring to counter-terror measures against camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

He further noted that nearly eight terror camps remain active in the region—two opposite the International Border and six along the Line of Control. “If any such activity happens again, we will certainly carry out whatever action we intend to take,” the Army chief added.

Background of Operation Sindoor
The operation was initiated after the Pahalgam attack on April 22, 2025, in which 26 tourists were killed—the worst terror strike in Kashmir since the 2019 Pulwama attack. India blamed The Resistance Front, an offshoot of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, though both TRF and Pakistan denied the allegations.

During the operation, all three branches of India’s armed forces—the Army, Navy, and Air Force—targeted nine terror camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The strikes led to a tense four-day standoff, marked by blackouts and air raid sirens along the LoC and International Border.

Current Situation
General Dwivedi described the situation in Jammu & Kashmir as “sensitive but firmly under control,” while noting recent drone sightings along the LoC. The military remains vigilant, ensuring any threat from active terror camps is immediately addressed.

Key Takeaways:

  • India was prepared for a ground offensive during Operation Sindoor.
  • The operation is ongoing, with 8 terror camps still active.
  • India’s response targeted terror infrastructure across Pakistan and PoK.
  • Situation in the region remains sensitive but under control.

This update underscores India’s readiness to respond to cross-border threats while maintaining vigilance along both the LoC and International Border.
