Arijit Singh’s Retirement: Anurag Kashyap Says Singer Was Tired Of Being Boxed Into Heartbreak Songs

Playback singer Arijit Singh’s shocking announcement about retiring from new singing assignments left fans heartbroken last month. Now, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has shared insights into why the singer decided to step away from Bollywood playback music.

Speaking during an interaction with Tried and Refused Productions, Kashyap said Arijit grew tired of being repeatedly asked to sing the same kind of heartbreak songs. He praised the singer’s versatility and creative depth, noting that Arijit is far more than just a voice for sad romantic tracks.

“The fact that Arijit Singh announced his retirement is because he was tired of singing the same thing again and again. Always the heartbreak song. The man is so talented,” Kashyap said.

He highlighted Arijit’s work beyond playback singing, mentioning that the singer also composed music for Sanya Malhotra’s film Pagglait, is a filmmaker, and actively supports his hometown. According to Kashyap, Arijit is a private individual who wants to explore different artistic expressions rather than being confined to a single genre.

“There is more to Arijit Singh than heartbreak songs. He wants to try a lot of other things,” he added.

Kashyap further explained that creative artists need freedom to evolve, saying that musicians produce their best work when they are allowed to explore rather than being restricted by commercial expectations.
