Ariana Grande Responds To Criticism Over Her Higher-Pitched Voice: ‘It’s Just Natural’

Washington, February 4: Singer-songwriter and actress Ariana Grande has addressed the ongoing criticism regarding her voice, which some fans have noted sounds higher-pitched compared to her past performances. Speaking on the Smartless podcast, Grande explained that the shift in her vocal tone is a natural part of maintaining vocal health.

“The thing that I do that perplexes people so much—and it’s just so funny because if you’re a person who uses their voice, you know about this,” Ariana said. “If I have a long day of press or if I have to sing, I’ll place my voice a little higher.”

She went on to clarify that the change in her vocal placement is done intentionally to preserve her voice, particularly during long performances or press tours. “It’s just basically pitching your voice up a tiny bit,” she added.

Grande, who earned an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Wicked, explained that the adjustment is “healthy for the voice” and part of her routine as a vocalist.

Addressing critics directly, Ariana called their comments “interesting” and reiterated that the pitch shift is entirely natural. “It’s just a normal thing for vocalists,” she explained. “But people are like, ‘That’s not her natural voice.’ And I’m like, ‘Well, it is actually, but it’s just a little higher. All of it is natural.'”

This is not the first time Grande has responded to criticism about her voice. Last year, she addressed similar comments regarding her portrayal of Glinda the Good Witch in Wicked, noting, “It’s so funny because I’ve talked about it a zillion times, and people are still like, ‘Where’s your real voice?’ And I’m like, ‘Well, they all are.'”
