Ari Aster’s ‘Eddington’ Trailer Out: Joaquin Phoenix & Pedro Pascal Clash In COVID-Era Drama Releasing July 18

Washington [US], June 11: Acclaimed filmmaker Ari Aster is back with his latest psychological drama ‘Eddington’, and the first full-length trailer is already turning heads. Released by A24, the film stars Joaquin Phoenix and Pedro Pascal in a riveting face-off set during the COVID-19 pandemic, in the fictional small town of Eddington, New Mexico.

Set to release in theatres on July 18, Eddington delves into the volatile tensions between a small-town sheriff and mayor, whose conflict sparks a chain of explosive neighbourly disputes.

All-Star Cast and Cannes Buzz

The film reunites Ari Aster and Joaquin Phoenix after their surreal dark comedy Beau Is Afraid. Alongside Phoenix and Pascal, the ensemble cast includes:

  • Luke Grimes
  • Deirdre O’Connell
  • Michael Ward
  • Austin Butler
  • Emma Stone

After its debut at the Cannes Film Festival, Eddington received a seven-minute standing ovation, signaling a powerful audience response to its gripping storytelling and sharp performances.

COVID-19 as a Cinematic Canvas

Written and directed by Aster, the film captures the societal paranoia and psychological unraveling of the pandemic era — a theme the director feels hasn’t been fully explored on screen.

“The pandemic changed how people live, think, and trust — and ‘Eddington’ confronts those fractures head-on,” said Aster in an earlier interview.

Produced by A24

Produced by A24 and Lars Knudsen under the Square Peg banner, Eddington is expected to blend dark comedy, sociopolitical commentary, and emotional intensity — hallmarks of Aster’s celebrated filmmaking style.
