Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], March 16: Oscar-winning music composer AR Rahman was hospitalized in Chennai after experiencing dehydration and neck pain following his recent travels, according to his team. The 58-year-old musician underwent a series of tests, all of which showed normal results, and he is expected to be discharged later today.
Rahman’s team refuted rumors that he had been hospitalized due to “chest pain,” calling the reports “fake news.” “It’s fake news (on heart issues) spreading now. Rahman went to the hospital because he got dehydrated and has neck pain due to travel,” his team clarified.
Rahman has been keeping busy with several music projects and performances. Recently, he joined British singer Ed Sheeran during his Mathematics Tour concert in Chennai, where the two performed a remix of Sheeran’s Shape of You and Rahman’s Urvasi. Ed Sheeran expressed his appreciation for Rahman on social media, calling it an “honor” to share the stage with the music legend.
In addition to his ongoing performances, Rahman is working on the music for Tere Ishk Mein, a spiritual sequel to the blockbuster film Raanjhanna, starring Dhanush and Kriti Sanon, and directed by Anand L. Rai.
Rahman’s ex-wife, Saira Banu, was recently hospitalized due to a medical emergency and had to undergo surgery. The news was shared by her lawyer, Vandana Shah. Rahman and Saira Banu had announced their separation in November 2024, after nearly 29 years of marriage.
