Anurag Kashyap’s New Film Nishaanchi Debuts, Director Defends Lead Actor’s Casting Against Nepotism Claims

Mumbai— The newest movie by director Anurag Kashyap, Nishaanchi, came out on September 19. It was the first movie for Aaishvary Thackeray, the grandson of Balasaheb Thackeray, who started the Shiv Sena. Kashyap talked about his plans to promote the film’s newcomers and defended his choice of actors against any charges of nepotism in a recent interview with News18.

A Different Way to Promote

Kashyap said his strategy was different from the marketing for another recent movie, Saiyaara, when the key actors were purposely prohibited from talking to the press before the movie came out. He said that he kept Aaishvary and his co-star, Vedika Pinto, out of the spotlight to make things easier for them.

“Newcomers are under too much stress. Kashyap remarked, “And I think they should be judged by how well they do.” He thinks that if the public and the media see their work first, they will be able to ask better questions and the performers will be able to give better replies.

Giving Aaishvary praise and denying nepotism

Kashyap quickly dismissed the suggestion that he stayed away from the media because he was afraid of being asked about nepotism or Aaishvary’s political past. He said that any questions about Aaishvary’s origins will “disappear” once people see him play.

Kashyap praised the young actor’s work, calling it “the best debut in the last two or three decades.” He also said that his choice had “nothing to do with nepotism.” He also said in an earlier interview that Aaishvary spent four years getting ready for his part in the movie.

In the crime drama Nishaanchi, Aaishvary plays twin brothers Babloo and Dabloo Nishaanchi. Monika Panwar, Kumud Mishra, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, and Vineet Kumar Singh are present in the movie. The summary says that the movie is about “twin brothers caught between crime and conscience, where love, loss, and fate test the strength of their bond.” Ranjan Chandel and Prasoon Mishra wrote the movie, and JAR Pictures made it.
