Cannes [France], May 16: In a heartwarming moment at the 78th Cannes Film Festival, veteran Bollywood actor Anupam Kher reunited with his old friend and legendary Hollywood star Robert De Niro, as both attended the prestigious event for their respective milestones.
Robert De Niro was honored with the honorary Palme d’Or for Lifetime Achievement, celebrating his immense contributions to global cinema. Meanwhile, Anupam Kher is present at Cannes for the world premiere of his upcoming film ‘Tanvi The Great’, scheduled for May 17.
The two actors, who shared screen space in the Oscar-winning Silver Linings Playbook (2012), were seen reconnecting during the festival. According to a press note from Kher’s team, the Indian actor also introduced debutante Shubhangi Dutt—his co-star in the film—to De Niro, who warmly wished her success. The exchange underscored the enduring friendships and cross-cultural collaborations that Cannes celebrates.
Earlier, Anupam Kher shared glimpses from his red carpet appearance, posting a series of photographs on Instagram. Dressed in a classic black tuxedo and bow tie, the Saaransh star captioned his post simply:
“Red Carpet!”
The images showed him arriving at the venue, exuding elegance and warmly interacting with fans.
‘Tanvi The Great’, directed by Anupam Kher himself, features a star-studded cast including Karan Tacker (marking his film debut), Boman Irani, Jackie Shroff, Arvind Swami, and Game of Thrones actor Iain Glen. The film’s sound design is helmed by Resul Pookutty, the Academy Award-winning sound designer of Slumdog Millionaire fame.
Produced under Anupam Kher Studios in collaboration with NFDC, the film’s official release date is yet to be announced, but its Cannes premiere signals a strong global push.
